Life Isn’t Fair, But So What?

At some point we’ve all heard the timeless adage “Life isn’t fair.” But what are we supposed to do with that information? Many people succumb to anger, contempt, and even envy because of it. Your life hasn’t been fair to you, so you are jealous of those who have had a better go at it. Well, we’re here to say don’t be like that. You’re better than that. Life isn’t fair, but so what? You can still accomplish great things and you should do your best to get where you want to be. Don’t turn this into a self-defeating prophecy!

Life Isn’t Fair, But So What?

Many Aspects Of Life Are Competitive

The first topic to get out of the way is competition. Whether it’s school, sports, or work, there will always be competition in some aspect of your life. Sadly, yes, that also means you probably will find yourself lacking at some point. That is normal and fine. You can’t win everything, and you certainly can’t be the best at everything either. Part of growing up is acknowledging that people will outperform you in different ways. Of course, you’ll outperform other people in your own ways too.

Also, don’t look at competition as a negative thing. It lights a fire in people that helps them achieve great things and soar to new heights. Not everything needs to be a competition, but good competition can boost productivity depending on the circumstance.

You’re Not Going To Be As Talented As Someone Else

As I said, someone is going to be better than you at something. There is no shame in that. Do your best, use your talents and skills effectively, and find your own path. Talent alone isn’t always the deciding factor in terms of performance. Work ethic matters just as much, for discipline and consistency win the day more often than not in my opinion.

Many Times People Care About What You Do, But Not Why You Do It

Unfortunately, people usually don’t care about why you do what you do. They tend not to care about your emotions, motivations, or reasoning. A lot of people will judge you purely on somewhat superficial things. Namely, they will judge by the actions they see and how you present yourself.

Now, judging people based on their actions is valid. The issue is that people only see a glimpse of it and make a bunch of assumptions that aren’t necessarily true. Again, it’s not fair for them to jump to conclusions, but so what? The important thing is to follow your conscience and do what you want to do and think is right. How people perceive it is their own problem.

People Are Constantly Selfish

People will often put themselves first. Deal with it. Not everyone is there to look out for you, and not everyone has the same morals. Take care of yourself and have the moral backbone to help others as much as you can. Just because others are selfish and wrong you, it doesn’t mean you need to be the same way. Also, the better you treat others the more you’ll find the gems in the crowd, the like-minded people.

Opportunities Are Built Through Relationships

Personally, I don’t find this to be inherently bad or unfair, but I know many people do. A lot of your opportunities in life will come to you because of who you know. Relationships, and being part of a community, are important in your life. Not only do they make you a better person, but they open many doors for you.

I’m clearly not a fan of this when it comes to brown-nosing behavior or doing underhanded things to get the edge on someone else. Rather, I think it is good for you to do your best to work well with others, build relationships, and treat others with respect and kindness. If you do that, even if other people are erring on the side of underhanded behavior, you’ll still be fine.

People Will Wrong You

I’ve mentioned it already, and it goes without saying, but people will wrong you in various ways. It’s up to you to handle it with maturity and turn the other cheek. It isn’t fair that people will wrong you and that you can’t always retaliate, but doing something wrong yourself won’t make the situation right. Do your best to stick to your morals and it will work out in the end. Don’t let emotions control your actions in the short-term, ending with something you’ll just regret.

Moving On And Getting Over It

As I said earlier, you just need to deal with it. Life isn’t always fair and people won’t always treat you kindly. You have to be able to take it in stride and not let that ruin your future or attitude. The less control you let other people have on your life and emotions, the easier it is to enjoy your life and all of the little moments along the way.

You Can Still Accomplish What You Want

This is one of the main points I want you to take away from this. No matter how you’re treated, or whatever cards you’re dealt, you will still have tons of opportunities to accomplish what you want. Now, you can’t have everything, but if you focus on your goals then you can accomplish most of what you set your mind to. So, don’t let other people or the way the world works deter you. The are unpleasant aspects of life, but there are also a million amazing things that come with it. Do your best, and just focus on what matters to you.

Conclusion

Hopefully you already knew most of this! If you didn’t, try to take it to heart and don’t let yourself get hung up on things that aren’t truly important. If you have any thoughts of your own to share, be sure to leave a comment!
